Bredenbeck's Bakery & Ice Cream Parlor is a full line sweet bakery that has been in the Philadelphia area since 1889. Our master bakers take pride creating everything from scratch, using only the finest, top quality ingredients. We bake like you would in your own kitchen. The ice cream parlor serves hand-dipped sundaes, milkshakes, and cones, and features rich Haägen Dazs and Bassetts ice cream and light Dannon frozen soft-serve yogurt. Bredenbeck's is known locally and nationally for its handmade butter cookies (the widest selection in Philadelphia!), fancy dessert miniatures, special occasion tortes and custom designed wedding cakes.

Through the Generations
Bredenbeck's comes from a long tradition of fine bakeries in Philadelphia. The original bakery was established by Frederick Robert Bredenbeck, an immigrant baker from Bavaria. He opened his first shop in the Northern Liberties section in 1889. Over the years, the bakery expanded and opened new stores in Germantown, Mt. Airy and Mayfair. Three generations of Bredenbeck's kept the business thriving for over 60 years. In 1954 the Bredenbeck family bequeathed the bakery to Karen Boyd's father and grandfather, Walter and Otto Haug, in deepest appreciation for being loyal employees over the years. Karen Haug Boyd, Walter's daughter, opened up her own bakery in Chestnut Hill in 1983, and has been running a successful business ever since.

Into the 21st Century
During the past 23 years, Karen has made every effort to retain the traditional techniques of a scratch bakery while keeping a keen eye on the changing marketplace. Customers all over the country are now able to purchase Bredenbeck's famous handmade cookies and other products on their website, www.bredenbecks.com.

In 1985, Bredenbeck's opened an old-fashioned ice cream parlor in the adjacent storefront. Customers come from miles around for their large selection of Häagen Dazs & Bassett's hand-dipped ice cream and soft-serve Dannon frozen yogurt. The ice cream parlor is a popular stop for locals, lovers, tourists, and even celebrities!

During the winter holidays, the ice cream parlor is transformed into a mail order center for Old-World style German cookies and holiday butter cookies. Orders have been shipped all across the country.

Bredenbeck’s also has a wholesale division and markets its baked goods to country clubs, restaurants, food services, corporations and institutions.
